MG Motor has unveiled the specifications for its upcoming high-performance, all-electric hatchback. Set to debut in July, the MG4 Electric XPOWER will be the brand’s most powerful production car yet.

With a dual motor powertrain generating 320 kW of power and up to 600 Nm of torque, the XPOWER model competes with the most potent high-performance hatchbacks available. Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, it offers thrilling performance while maintaining a subtle exterior design.

The exterior enhancements include orange ‘XPOWER’ brake calipers, a two-tone black roof, 18” alloy wheels, and polished trim accents. Additionally, a new Hunter Green color option adds exclusivity to the model.

Aiden He, CEO of MG Nordic and Benelux, expressed confidence in the MG4 XPOWER’s potential impact on the market.

He stated, “We believe the MG4 XPOWER will disrupt the market, much like the MG4 SE and Trophy, by showcasing that a compact EV can be affordable, practical, and provide an exceptional driving experience.”

He further emphasised that the XPOWER appeals to customers seeking a performance-oriented vehicle that stands apart from the traditionally “loud” high-performance hatchbacks. Despite its sporty nature, the XPOWER retains the technology, equipment levels, and practical hatchback features that have made the MG4 range award-winning.

The MG4 Electric XPOWER will be available for ordering starting this summer. It is anticipated to be one of the most thrilling new electric cars of 2023, representing a significant milestone in MG’s highly anticipated return to the performance car market.

The MG4 Electric XPOWER is built on the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) of the MG4, and it boasts an innovative dual motor setup that delivers an impressive 320kW and 435PS to all four wheels. The front electric motor generates 150kW, while the rear motor produces 170kW.

Beyond its exceptional straight-line performance, the upgraded drivetrain incorporates advanced technological enhancements to optimize power distribution and enhance driver engagement during cornering. A groundbreaking Dynamic Cornering Control System, a first for MG, includes an electronic differential lock and Intelligent Motor Control, enabling torque vectoring among all four wheels. This technology ensures maximum traction and exceptional stability across a wide range of driving scenarios.

Extensive suspension upgrades have been implemented, including recalibrated spring and damper tuning, stiffer anti-roll bars, and sharper steering. These enhancements result in an up to 25% increase in overall suspension stiffness, building upon the acclaimed handling characteristics of the current MG4 models.

Furthermore, MG’s engineering team has fine-tuned the regenerative braking software, enabling convenient one-pedal driving in suitable situations. With increased stopping power, the MG4 XPOWER achieves an impressive 100km/h to 0 braking distance of just 33.9 meters. This is achieved through the implementation of uprated, ventilated 345mm discs on all four corners, complemented by new premium Bridgestone Turanza tires that deliver excellent grip without compromising rolling efficiency.

To underscore its performance credentials, the MG4 XPOWER introduces a new launch control feature, allowing drivers to unleash the vehicle’s full potential by accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.8 seconds.
