BMW is trying to regain its position as a leading company in the field of electric vehicles. As part of a series of announcements highlighting the latest products of the German automaker, BMW introduced a bold new concept for a BMW Storms e-Scooter: the Definition CE 04 motorcycle.

This is the second electric scooter released by BMW

The BMW CE 04 is an electric scooter that runs only on the electricity of the in-vehicle battery. BMW released “C Evolution” as a similar model in 2017, and this model will be the second electric motorcycle model that follows.

The motor (permanent magnet type synchronous motor) is water-cooled and mounted on the frame that connects the battery and the rear wheel. The maximum output is 42PS (31kW) / 4900rpm, the maximum torque is 62N ・ m (6.3kgf ・ m) / 0-4900rpm, and the power performance is 0-50km / h acceleration in 2.6 seconds and maximum speed of 120km / h. To realize.

On the other hand, the battery is an air-cooled lithium-ion type battery with a capacity of 60.6Ah (8.9kWh). The mileage per charge is 130km, the power consumption rate is nominally 7.7kWh / 100km (both in WMTC mode), and the motor is also equipped with a brake energy regeneration function to achieve highly efficient driving.

Regarding charging, in addition to single-phase 200V / 15A normal charging, it also supports single-phase 200V / 32A (6.4kW) high-speed charging called “Mode 3”. In the former case, it takes about 3 hours to charge the battery from 0% to 80%. In the latter case, it can be fully charged in about 1 hour and 20 minutes. It does not support CHAdeMO standard quick charging.

CE 04 also pursues high comfort, steering stability, and smooth handling required for large scooters. A one-piece steel pipe main frame is used for the vehicle skeleton, a φ35 mm telescopic fork is used for the front suspension, and a cantilever swing arm and direct control spring strut are used for the rear. It also features a generous tire size of 120 / 70R15 for the front and 160 / 60R15 for the back.

The safety equipment is also substantial, and the brake system uses “ABS Pro” that also controls braking during cornering. In addition to traction control that limits torque according to the slip of the rear wheel, DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) that also detects the bank of the car body and controls acceleration is adopted in the Japanese specification. Also, in addition to “ECO”, “Rain” and “Road” in the riding mode, “Dynamic” that enables acceleration at a faster pace is adopted as standard, which is also a feature of the Japanese specification.

In addition, the Japanese specification CE 04 is equipped with a seat heater, grip heater, daytime riding light, ETC 2.0 on-board unit, etc. as standard equipment. It is also a topic that vehicle inspection is not required because it is a light two-wheeled vehicle with a displacement of less than 250cc while realizing high power performance and full equipment.

There are two types of coloring, “Light White” and “Magelan Gray Metallic”. The price is 1.61 million yen for the former and 1.639 million yen for the latter.
