BYD appoints Sime Darby to distribute Denza in Malaysia

BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. held an official signing ceremony of the Denza Importation & Distribution Agreement at Sunway Resort Hotel on 8th October 2024, where Sime Darby Auto Imports Sdn. Bhd. has been appointed as the official importer and BYD Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. as the official distributor for Denza, a premium sub-brand by BYD, in Malaysia. This marks a new journey and further enhances the relationship between BYD and Sime Darby as a group, expanding the partnership with the latter as an official importer.

Entering the right-hand drive market is a key move for BYD and Denza, as it marks a foray into the region’s major automotive markets of Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. The Denza D9 is expected to hit Malaysia roads in Q1 2025.

This signing will be the first step for Denza entering into Malaysia. The luxury electric vehicle sub-brand of BYD, is set to bring a new dimension to Malaysia’s EV market with premium cutting-edge technology, features and driving experience. Through Denza, BYD aims to provide Malaysians a more diverse, innovative and premium EV experience.

Denza D9 Specifications

The Denza D9 offers exceptional value for those who demand sophistication, technology and performance, whether for business or leisure. Inside, the cabin boasts nappa leather seats, retractable tables, an in-built refrigerator, wireless charging ports, and zero-gravity massage seats with touch screen controls.

The Denza D9 has a dual motor setup with an all-wheel drive (AWD) system, producing 374 horsepower (275 kW) and 470 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h.

It is equipped with a 103.36 kWh battery, providing a range of 600 km (372 miles). It supports a DC charge rate of 166 kW, allowing for a 30-minute charge time, and an AC charge rate of 11 kW, with a full charge taking approximately 10 hours.

The Denza D9  weighs 2,785 kg and measures 5,250 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,920 mm in height, providing a whopping 3110mm of wheelbase.  It offers a luggage volume of 410 liters.

Meanwhile, BYD launched its luxury marque, Denza, in Singapore on 10th October 2024. This is the brand’s next foray into the right-hand drive automotive market outside Hong Kong, where it debuted in July 2024.

BYD has appointed two dealers for Denza: Vantage Automotive and Harmony Auto. Vantage Automotive is also a subsidiary of Sime Darby. Since 2019, Vantage has been the sole distributor of BYD’s mainstream EVs in Singapore, with multiple dealers including Motor-East, EightX Group and Harmony as well as Vantage itself.

Denza will be introduced in Thailand later this year, followed by Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand in 2025.
