Expect a huge range of EVs to be displayed, including concepts by Honda, Nissan, Smart, Polestar, XPeng and BYD.
Auto Shanghai, an event that has been taking place since 1985, is set to showcase new releases from global brands like Polestar, Porsche, and Smart, as well as from Chinese carmakers such as BYD and Xpeng when it returns on April 18. One of the new releases that will be unveiled is the Nissan Max-Out Concept, an electric two-seater drop-top that will make its official debut in China as part of Nissan’s commitment to developing sustainable and innovative mobility. The car is expected to use Nissan’s solid-state battery technology and boasts a unique design with a large open-air intake at the front, a lightbar at the rear, and a set of unique alloys. Nissan claims that the Max-Out promises to deliver a new driving experience with its superior stability, comfort, and tight handling.
Aside from the Nissan Max-Out, visitors can also expect to see two concepts from Nissan that preview China-only production cars, both of which will feature all-electric and e-POWER powertrains. Another car to look out for is the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, which will come with the Maybach ultra-luxury sub-brand’s signature two-tone paintwork and bespoke interior upgrades, making it worthy of “first-class” accommodation. The SUV will be powered by two electric motors producing 650bhp and 700lb ft and offer a range of approximately 373 miles (600km).
Other notable releases at Auto Shanghai include the Smart #3, a new electric SUV that marks the next stage in Smart’s electric revolution; the Polestar 4, a rakish sporting crossover that will rival the Porsche Macan; and BYD’s new five-seat SUV, the first piece in the firm’s new F model line. Xpeng’s G6, a mid-size electric crossover with a minimalist design, is expected to go on sale in front- and four-wheel drive guises with outputs ranging between 208bhp and 292bhp, and will be sold in selected European countries from 2024. Finally, the X, the third production model from Geely-owned Chinese firm Zeekr, is an electric crossover that aims to double Zeekr’s sales to more than 140,000 this year and is likely to share powertrains with the Smart #1 and forthcoming Volvo EX30.
