The XPENG G9 SUV has successfully obtained the Guangzhou Intelligent Connected Vehicle Passenger Test Permit, and the testing area covers all general testing roads in Guangzhou.

Under the permit, the company will launch Robotaxi autonomous driving passenger testing service for all users in the Huangpu District of Guangzhou in the second half of 2023. By then users will be able to simply hail a G9 Robotaxi through a mini-program app on WeChat.

In November 2022, XPENG G9 achieved a significant milestone in the automotive industry by becoming the first mass-produced vehicle capable of autonomous driving without any hardware modifications. This accomplishment was made possible through software upgrades.

The G9 autonomous driving road test vehicles utilize the same hardware suite found in the commercial G9 vehicles, including perception sensors, computing systems, and vehicle control systems. Furthermore, G9 has undergone enhancements specifically tailored for Robotaxi-related scenarios.

By eliminating the need for hardware modifications, the G9 Robotaxi significantly reduces costs associated with research and development, mass production, and maintenance. This groundbreaking approach allows for the widespread utilization and commercialization of Robotaxi services on a large scale.

Through a closed-loop data system, the G9 Robotaxi fleet continuously improves its performance, stability, and adaptability more efficiently. Additionally, when combined with the mass-produced vehicles, this fleet can accumulate a larger volume and wider variety of training data from real-world operations.

The G9’s autonomous driving system is equipped with China’s first and only mass-produced BEV (Bird’s Eye View) perception technology, XNet, which delivers real-time 360° panoramic environmental perception of surrounding road conditions, including traffic participants, traffic signs, lane markings and drivable space etc.

As XNet technology continues to mature, users will no longer be limited by high-precision map areas, and will be able to enjoy safe and efficient autonomous driving experiences in more cities and scenarios.
